There are new rules for citizen´s card
Starting today, the citizen´s card will be valid for 10 years for people over 25 years and the renewal will be possible through the internet. For the poorest, the card will be free.
There are new rules for citizen´s card. According to the ordinance published in Diário da República, from Monday (October 2) those who over 25 years of age make the citizen´s card will pay more, but will also be able to keep the same card for longer: ten years. The renewal will be able to be made through the internet.

The last amendment to the law that created the citizen´s card in 2007 was made in June and established, among other novelties, that the citizen´s card is mandatory for all Portuguese citizens up to 20 days after their birth registration. Now, the changes introduced here bring changes in the computer´s access to the card, its validity - extending it from five to ten years for citizens over 25 - and allowing it to be renewed over the internet anywhere (this from December). More. New ways to change the PIN will be introduced, for 5 euros.

The novelties have a price, fixed in this ordinance, but not for all. Under the law, there will be situations of price reduction, exemption or even free of charge in cases where the applicant proves economic insufficiency or is hospitalized in an institution of assistance or charity.

The issue or renewal of a citizen card will cost 15 euros when valid for five years and 18 when the validity is ten (this with normal delivery). With urgent delivery, the price doubles in the first case and goes to 30 euros for cards of citizens over 25 years and with validity of ten years. Prices also vary when delivery is made abroad, for emigrant citizens, for example. There are five euros more than that established for delivery in national territory on both cards and in normal deliveries.
